Late January of 2026 saw severe winter weather that is not usually seen in the Southeast and even less in South Carolina. No less than 40 states across the country were impacted in back-to back weekend storms that brought ice and snow. CNNGA was forced to purchase additional gas supplies above what is typically planned in order to ensure consistent service. Gas is traded as a commodity and prices are set by the market at the time. Where the Authority locks in amounts of gas at fixed prices and may see those around $6 per dekatherm, we saw prices spike to over $90 per dekatherm at times. These increased rates will be reflected in statements for January usage that are mailed in February.
We understand that this will have a negative impact on many of our customers and we stand ready to assist how we can through arrangements and by offering our Levelized Billing program. Contact us as soon as possible to discuss these options.
